Before
I published the "What Made Them Famous?" series, I wrote another book
called "Tupu" which is also published by KiwE Publishing, (www.Kiwepublishing.com)
and was written under my other name-Steven. The reason for this
is that several years back, I decided to transcribe my grandfather's hundred-year-old,
quill-written, journals into novel form. I named this book "The
Autobiography of My Grandfather, Tupu." This project was a legacy to my family
and so I only printed enough copies to give away as gifts to them. (My family
calls me Steven.) What I first thought-this book was only of interest
to my family, ended up by being far more. I had requests for copies from many,
many people around the world, including educational institutes. I had to reprint
several thousand more copies to meet this demand. Since then, the book
has been republished by KiwE Publishing, and renamed "Tupu."
What I first thought as this book only being a gift to my family, is now being
distributed and read worldwide. "Tupu" can also be purchased through
KiwE Publishing's online bookstore at www.kiwepublishing.com.
Tupu, whose traumatic birth on a schooner, off the coast of New Zealand,
seemed to set the precedent for escaping the harrowing life experiences of this
tough and extraordinary man: Henry Edward Tautari Johnson. He lived during a difficult
period in New Zealand's history where his opportunist ability aided his survival
in rough situations. This is a well-written and exciting autobiography
describing the days of gum digging and whaling; of kauri logging and river rafting.
Where hardy working men depended on a horse and dray and a team of bullocks for
their way of life. Harry Johnson, as he came to be known, (Tupu to family
and close friends,) was a world traveler during a time when it was not a popular
undertaking. He records his experiences while a soldier in Egypt, and his visits
to the Holy Land and Europe. My grandfather's story is a great read
for those who enjoy humor, pathos, and excitement.
