 Cleopatra,

in preserving her country's independence. The shadow of the mighty
Roman Empire loomed over Egypt in 69 BC, the year Cleopatra was born. When she
grew into a young woman and inherited the throne at the age of eighteen, the fear
of Rome's military aggression worsened. Cleopatra was determined to stop them.
The young queen's family had ruled over Egypt for three hundred years. Cleopatra
was not willing to surrender her country. When she came into power her Egyptian
subjects worshiped her as the divine goddess Isis.
Cleopatra's story
